Bastian Schweinsteiger believes Louis van Gaal will soon return Manchester United to Europe's elite, and has vowed to do all he can to help the club rival the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Van Gaal led United to a fourth-placed finish in his first season as manager, returning the club to the Champions League after a disastrous campaign under David Moyes in 2014-15.
And summer signing Schweinsteiger, who worked with Van Gaal at Bayern, is confident that United can continue their upward trajectory under the Dutchman.
"I am positive that – under coach Louis van Gaal – it is possible with Manchester United to usher in a new era. Similar to Bayern then," Schweinsteiger told Bild.

"This is what makes them the charm for me.
"I can promise to give everything and try with my experience to help to internationally reach the level of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern."
Despite his previous experience under Van Gaal, Schweinsteiger says that the presence of the Dutchman was not the main motivation behind his move.
"If you know how a coach is ticking and how he can play football, it makes a decision easier," he added.
"But I went primarily because of the club... the fact that the coach still fits so well, of course, is ideal."
