xda-developers members are noting that Microsoft has removed support for Windows Bridge for Android in the latest build of Windows 10 for smartphones. Windows Bridge for Android, otherwise known as Project Astoria, enabled developers to easily port their Android apps to Windows by retaining most of the code, and allowed customers to sideload Android APK files, no longer seems to be working.
Microsoft has seemingly removed the subsystem in the latest 10549 build of Windows 10 for smartphones, even though the subsystem files are still present in the emulator, which runs build 10563.
According to WindowsBlogItalia, the reason for removal is that the Android subsystem was slowly degrading Windows 10 Mobile.
